Grapner
A downloadable game for Android
Welcome to "Grapner", a fast-paced experimental game where your agility, precision, and quick decision-making are the keys to high scores! Your objective is simple: collect as many orbs as possible before time runs out. Some orbs grant you valuable points, while others boost your remaining time; choose your path wisely!
Navigate a level built with towering neon-lit blocks designed to test your movement skills. You're equipped with a grappling hook gun, allowing you to zip through the level creatively. Mastering the momentum and combining it with efficient pathfinding can make all the difference.
The orbs themselves are intelligent, avoiding obstacles and dynamically navigating the floor using AI and baked navigation data—a result of my early experimentation with Unity's navmesh system in Unity 2017. The lighting in the game, including the dramatic neon glows and moody ambiance, was born out of my curiosity to push the visual limits of Unity's old lighting system.
Recently, I migrated the entire project to Unity 2022, refining shaders, updating the lighting pipeline, and reworking the navmesh system to match the latest engine updates. This involved replacing deprecated systems, optimizing performance, and bringing a fresh visual polish while maintaining the original experimental essence.
"Grapner" is not just a standalone game; it's a sandbox of ideas, a playground where I prototyped mechanics, visuals, and maybe even the systems that will feed into my larger, upcoming project: Drifters. Think of this as a glimpse into the early DNA of a much more ambitious vision.
I hope you enjoy playing this silly game as much as I enjoyed building it. Feedback is always welcome!
